Erin Stapleton, SAMS Survey Associate, ABYC Standards Adivsor

Erin Stapleton grew up on the water near Milwaukee, WI, and enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1997. He worked his way up through the ranks from Seaman to Chief Warrant Officer 2 (Bosn), retiring in 2020.

His expertise, attention to detail, leadership, and knowledge in vessel maintenance, earned him the privilege of being in command of three different Coast Guard units. These units included positions as Officer in Charge of Coast Guard Station Maui and Executive Petty Officer of USCGC Blacktip, an 87’ patrol boat, and Coast Guard Station Portsmouth, VA.

He also served as Sailmaster of the USCG Barque Eagle from 2016-2018, overseeing hull replacement, rigging repair, and sail replacements for the 80-year-old vessel. Acting as Sail master, Eagle completed three, four months long, training seasons, including two Trans-Atlantic crossings and Caribbean voyages logging more than 20,000 miles of open water navigation.

Post Coast Guard career, Erin attended Chapman School of Seamanship Yacht and Small Craft Survey course which is considered by many to be the “Gold Standard” for Marine Surveyor training, and achieved his ABYC Marine Standards certification as well as becoming a Surveyor Associate with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors.

In addition to his survey and maritime project management background, Erin currently holds a 100 GT Near Coastal Merchant Mariner credential with assistance towing endorsement as well as a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College.

His goal is to make you feel safe on the water and confident in your purchase and investment.
