True North Marine Services Offers several services on the Great Lakes and beyond:

Pre-Purchase Survey

This is the most comprehensive type of inspection, and is strongly recommended when purchasing a new or used vessel. Condition and overall operation of the vessel will be inspected. The survey content evaluates the overall condition of the vessel including areas such as structural integrity, electrical systems, the propulsion system, the fuel system, auxiliary machinery, navigation equipment, miscellaneous on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics and overall maintenance in addition to an out-of-water hull inspection and a sea trial.

Insurance Survey

Also referred to as a Condition & Valuation Survey, this assessment is performed so that the insurance company can make a determination of whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. Insurance providers are primarily focused on the overall structural integrity and safety standard compliance for the vessels intended use. Insurance companies generally require surveys of older boats. They also typically require an appraisal of the vessel’s fair market value

Consultation

Looking to purchase a new or used boat in the near future? Want to learn how to navigate your vessel, how to tie knots, splice rope, or how to more effectively maneuver your vessel? With over 20 years of experience and thousands of hours underway on vessels ranging from 25' all the way up to vessels in excess of 1,000 gross tons, Erin @ True North, can help.

Buyer Representation @ Sale

This service provides clients who are unable or unwilling to travel and wish to have an expert in the field represent them as the buyer. The survey is typically a pre-purchase type and can be accompanied by a Report of Survey, or, more commonly, is accompanied by an unofficial list of findings emailed to the client. Whether a report is required or not, there are no compromises made in the quality or thoroughness of the survey.

Vessel Appraisal

This assessment is performed to gather adequate information to support or determine the fair market value of the vessel. This is typically required to secure financing, or assist with estate settlements, donations and legal cases or if an owner wants to establish the current value of their asset.

Oil Sampling

Upon request, True North Marine Services will collect a small volume of lubricant from the marine engine(s) and generator(s) for the purpose of oil analysis. An oil test can provide valuable information about the metal wear and general condition of the engine. The samples are drawn into a small, clean bottle, which is sealed and shipped to Blackstone Laboratories, an industry-leading and independent laboratory in Indiana, for analysis. This service provides information on possible failure points in the internals of the propulsion system.
